New Patient Page

The Process
Upon admission to our clinic, and completion of the new patient paperwork entailed (available on the right of this page), we at Barnewolt & Barnewolt Chiropractic employ a very precise process by which we learn about you and your situation.

We will first conduct a Chiropractic consultation. This is basically an interview, where we not only learn about the reason you came, but also learn about you as an individual and other aspects of your life that may contribute to the problem at hand.

From this consultation, we customize an exam designed to narrow down our list into a small group of problems known as our “working diagnosis”. Based on the results of both the consultation and exam, we decide if any additional studies are necessary for treatment. These could include, but are not limited to X-ray, MRI, CT, Ultrasound, blood or urine, and many more.

Most patients receive X-rays, not only to exclude any more serious problems from our list of concerns, but also to establish a “road map” of your frame and structure, giving the Doctor an added advantage in your treatment, which allows for a more speedy recovery.

Then, we present you with a report of findings. Here, we discuss the results of the entire process by which we have diagnosed you; review your x-rays with you; explain our conclusions; and outline a personalized treatment plan designed to get you feeling better as soon as possible. This treatment plan can include adjustments, rehabilitation, stretches, exercises, nutritional consult, lifestyle alterations, and others.

Basic Anatomy of the Nervous System
Your nervous system controls and mediates every aspect related to the function of your body and its tissues. The central nervous system is comprised of your brain and spinal cord, and is housed within your skull and spinal column. It is the “computer” or “mainframe” that makes all the decisions, and regulates all the processes. Nerves then exit the spinal column via holes in your spine called inter-vertebral foramina (IVFs) to relay the messages to and from the brain/spinal cord. The IVF is composed of two bones, or vertebrae, and the joints by which those bones move together.

The Joint

Anywhere you have a joint in your body, you can have joint problems. Any time that you have joint problems, you will typically have a varying degree of swelling and/or discomfort. The IVF is for the most part, a set size and circumference. If there is any degree of swelling in the tissues surrounding the joints of the IVF, then that places the swelling in and around the tissues surrounding the nerve itself. This causes pressure on the nerve, as it has nowhere else to go.

Pressure on a nerve can cause its messages to become obscured. This can cause pain, communication errors between brain and tissue, and, therefore, flaws in the function of the tissue itself. This could include the tissue of your heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, and all other organs of your body. The pain you can experience can either be defined at the joint causing the problem, or travel to other areas of the body, based on the nerve being affected.

A Chiropractor’s Primary Job

Our primary job as Chiropractors is to locate joint dysfunction, known as a Subluxation, and correct it, allowing the body to communicate effectively between brain and tissue.  This causes a natural healing process to commence. It is for this reason that while most Chiropractic patients often come in for the remedy of back/neck pain and headaches, they soon relate to us how the other aspects of their health and wellness have been addressed. Although they seem surprised when their blood pressure is better or their baby's chronic ear infections have ceased without surgery, Chiropractors find these responses to care common. It is in fact, why most Chiropractors do what they do.

At Barnewolt & Barnewolt Chiropractic, it would be our pleasure to do this for you.  Contact us for a free consultation today.
